The company was founded in 1949 as a mechanical engineering company by founder Ernst Kallfass Sr. and his wife Frida.

Initially repair work, particularly for woodworking companies, was provided.

By the end of the 1960s KALLFASS was among the first companies to build stacking machines for sawn timber.

In 1975 the son, Ernst, joined the company; the firm was turned over to him in 1984.
Under his direction manufacturing was rationalized, the products were further developed, and the existing individual machines and conveyor devices were combined to form complete manufacturing plants.

From this point on, the increasing shift of pallet blanks directly into the sawmills created a market with this customer group for flexible sizing, stacking and sorting systems. With increasing mechanization in conjunction with planing machines, multi-blade saws and band-saws, and in conjunction with finger jointing and glued laminated wood construction, the implementation area of the system product line continued to expand.

A subsidiary plant was founded in 1991 in Wernigerode in the Harz mountains, with the technical workforce of a former saw mill; its operations moved into the newly built production facility in 1993.

The company can draw on 60 years of experience.

In 2009 the company celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Now the focus of production is on systems for the processing of sawn timber. With the sorting systems, sawn timber can be sorted depending on dimensions and quality and resorted, planed, and glued, if necessary, in special systems.
